PCB has stated that the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will be handed over to ICC on February 11, just over a week before the start of the ODI showpiece, amid increasing concerns regarding the readiness of Champions Trophy venues in the country.
A Board source told PTI that the stadium would be given to ICC “for branding and other stuff by 11th of next Month” after the completion of Pakistan’s tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa.
The deadline for the handover of all three stadiums – Gaddafi Stadium (Lahore), National Stadium (Karachi), and Rawalpindi Stadium – which will host the global event in Pakistan has been set by ICC on January 31.
The stadium has just had some “final touches” put to it, said the source.
“It has always been this construction site and some rubble will be removed shortly. Finally, after about six months, the stadium has taken shape,” the source said.
An eight-team tournament is set to be held in Pakistan on February 19, but India will play all its games in Dubai due to security reasons.
The PCB had also given an update that the stadium in Karachi will also be revamped under the given time. The stadium is all set to host the opening clash of the Champions Trophy 2025 between New Zealand and Pakistan.
The PCB have gone on to spend a huge sum (12 billion PKR ) for the revamp of all the three stadiums ahead of the marquee tournament.
On the other hand ICC CEO Geoff Allardice terminated his position as there was no clarity regarding PCBs preparation for the upcoming ICC event.
