In the World Cup qualifying game, there was a big fuss about a goal Qatar scored. Some people say the ball went out before the goal, which usually means it shouldn’t count. But the referee said the goal was good.
The Indian men’s football team got out of the second round of the World Cup qualifiers for FIFA 2026 India Vs Qatar on 11 June’2024.

Kuwait, who had a 1-0 against Afghanistan on the final matchday,. Joined the toppers line along with Qatar and progressed to the next round of the qualifiers.Lallianzuala Chhangte, from India was able to score an opening goal in the first half and failed to score more.
However, Yousef Aymen and Ahmed Al-Rawi made two goals in the second half that made Qatar win. Yesterday’s loss of the Indian men’s football team made it not move further to the third round of the FIFA World Cup and also missed out on the team’s ticket to the AFC Asian Cup.
The Indian team’s goalkeeper and captain Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, had to stop a shot from the Qatar team very early in the game, just after it started. The Qatars continued attacking and trying to score, so Gurpreet had to keep making saves to stop them from scoring in the first 15 minutes of the match.

It's clearly visible that ball has crossed the line for a goal-kick but the nasty Qataris pull it back to tuck in.
CLEARLY NOT A GOAL…!!! 😡 @FIFAcom #IndianFootball #QATIND #FIFA #cheating pic.twitter.com/MCYPAqRrpP
However, the team was unable to convert his efforts into victory. The entire match, led to big argument about Qatar’s goals. Fans believe that the ball was already out before the goal that should mean no goal but the referee said the goal was okay.
There was no VAR— a special camera to check the play again, so the referee’s word was final. This made many people upset and they talked a lot about whether it was the right call.
Sadly, the last controversial goal by Qatar led to India’s defeat and exit from the competition
The match disappointed the football fans but the team’s performance against the high -ranked team hinted at their potential for future competitions.
