In an exciting move for cricket fans, England and India will play for the new Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy in their upcoming five-match Test series. This trophy is named after two of the greatest players in Test history: India’s Sachin Tendulkar and England’s James Anderson. The trophy will be presented just before the first match at Headingley on June 20, 2025.
According to a report from the BBC, the Pataudi Trophy has now been renamed the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. Sachin Tendulkar, known for being the top run-scorer in Test cricket history with 15,921 runs in 200 matches, is admired worldwide. In contrast, James Anderson is England’s leading wicket-taker and the most successful fast bowler in Test cricket, boasting 704 wickets. Even after retiring from international play last summer, Anderson is still active as a bowling consultant for England and plays county cricket for Lancashire.
The Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy recognizes the friendly rivalry and respect shared by both players, who competed against each other in 14 Tests. Interestingly, no bowler has dismissed Tendulkar more often than Anderson, who got him out nine times. This new trophy follows a similar concept with the Crowe-Thorpe Trophy, named after New Zealand’s Martin Crowe and England’s Graham Thorpe, which was introduced during England’s tour of New Zealand last year.

In India, Test series are still played for the Anthony de Mello Trophy, named after a former Indian cricket administrator. It’s still unclear if the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy will take its place for home series. The England and Wales Cricket Board hasn’t offered details regarding the trophy’s introduction, but this new addition highlights the long-standing cricket rivalry between England and India and pays tribute to two legends who made a huge impact on the sport.
