Jasprit Bumrah, India’s star pacer, seems to be off colour in the ongoing fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. Even with a pitch offering uneven bounce and India putting up 358 runs in tough conditions, Bumrah hasn’t bowled to his standards. England batsmen have handled him well and scored big.
Things went from bad to worse on Day 3 when Bumrah was seen limping to the dressing room. The video went viral and now everyone is worried about his fitness. India is already struggling in this Test and a possible Bumrah injury only makes it tougher.
News 18 reports that Bumrah twisted his ankle on the stairs and that’s why he didn’t bowl for a while in the first two sessions. He only bowled one over with the second new ball and commentators said he left the field for treatment. As Joe Root and Ben Stokes took advantage of the new ball, Bumrah’s absence was more pronounced. He was even seen sitting near the boundary, looking uncomfortable.
India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, tried to downplay the concerns, saying Bumrah just rolled his ankle and needs more energy. Morkel said Mohammed Siraj also had a minor issue stepping awkwardly, but both bowlers seem fine now.

Bumrah did return to bowl later but he didn’t look fully fit. He was protecting his left ankle and lacked his usual pace and rhythm. He did take Jamie Smith’s wicket and ended Day 3 with 1 for 95 in 28 overs.
Interestingly, Bumrah reached a personal milestone, 50 Test wickets in England. He’s only the third Asian bowler to do so, after Wasim Akram and Ishant Sharma, in just 12 matches, averaging 26.38.
