Jasprit Bumrah has been in the buzz these days in spite of not playing cricket these days. The right arm pace bowler has been out of action due to back injury which he suffered in the final test match of the Border Gavaskar trophy. However, the pacer has been included in team India’s squad which is set to travel to Dubai for the upcoming ICC event.
Bumrah’s availability for the marquee event is not fully certain. The tournament is set to commence from February 19 to March 9 with Dubai and Pakistan hosting the event.
The right arm pacer is currently under the watchful eyes of orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rowan Schouten in New Zealand. Bumrah’s availability for the event will be entirely based on the reports and feedback provided by the surgeon. Bumrah has earlier also been treated by the same surgeon way back in 2022 when back injury ruled him out of cricketing action for almost a year.
As per the sources the talks under in BCCI have already started to get a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the champions trophy 2025 as his chances of getting ready are quite uncertain.
When the 15 member team for the champions trophy was announced the cheif Selector Ajit Agarkar informed that Bumrah could participate in the final ODI between India and England but that is not 100% sure.
A source of the BCCI was quoted saying that “The medical team of the BCCI is in constant talks with the surgeon. The board has also prepared a roadmap regarding Bumrah’s visit to New Zealand. But there’s no 100% guarantee. Selectors know that will be nothing but a miracle if Bumrah is available for the ICC champions trophy in the given time.”

Bumrah who was part of the India’s playing 11 in all the five matches of the border gavaskar trophy has been advised for a three weeks rest. Bumrah will be under the observation of the medical team and his report will be shared to Dr. Rowan Schouten as well before taking any decision.
“The surgeon will be given the updates regarding Bumrah ,Depending on the feedback, Bumrah will be sent to New Zealand. There is no push from the board or from Bumrah himself to hasten his return, considering how important he is for the long term,” said the source.
“He will only be made clear to the selectors after all the rehabilitation and assessment to determine if he will be ready for selection. That will require making a contingency plan for the selectors. It will be a blessing in disguise if Bumrah gets fit ,” added the source.
The teams have been given a deadline till 11th January to make any adjustments regarding their squad for the ICC champions trophy.
