India and England are set to face off in a 5 match Test series starting June 20 in Headingley, Leeds. This time England are favourites as India will be without Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma. With these legends retiring, India has some gaps in their team which can affect their performance on the field.
In a chat with The Times of India, Joe Root spoke about Kohli and his struggles with batting outside the off stump in England. He said every player has his own style and if there’s a technical issue in a long series, it’s tough to sort it out. There’s no time to take a break and work on the problems. “In a 5 match Test series if something’s off in your game it can be a challenge. You don’t get a couple of weeks to fix it. If you want to make changes during a Test it’s risky because you’re facing top players in their conditions,” he said.

Root also mentioned that Kohli scored a hundred in the first Test of the last series showing he still had some good moments despite the struggles. He said making small tweaks to your technique or approach can help you get back in control. But every change has its pros and cons and players have to decide if it’s worth making those changes.
