Joe Root, England’s top batter, is looking forward to a big year of Test cricket with home series against India and an away Ashes in Australia. He described the challenges ahead as epic and praised the Indian team for being well rounded. Everyone will want to talk about the Ashes but we have to focus on beating a very strong Indian team, he said.
Root noted India’s growth in all formats: They have a solid seam attack, talented batters and a strong spin game. They’ll give us a tough time anywhere but we have a good record at home so it should be a great series. We need to go into it with confidence but also respect for them.
