On the third day of the ongoing Test between New Zealand and England, Kane Williamson reached the 9000-run milestone in the format. He became the first New Zealand and overall the 19th batter to score 9000 runs in Test cricket.
Williamson was out of action for two months following an injury on the Sri Lanka tour. He returned back in this Test and in some style.

In the first innings, the right-hander scored a gritty 93 after New Zealand lost an early wicket in the second over. He then followed it up with a 61-run knock, completing his 9000 Test runs in the process.
Williamson has been leading the run chart for New Zealand for quite some time, with Ross Taylor being the second with 7683 runs. He attained the feat in 103 Tests, making him the joint-third fastest to 9000 runs. He now shares the record with Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Pakistan’s Younis Khan.
After Williamson’s knock ended on 61 runs, he now has 9035 in 182 innings at an average of 54.75. He has also struck 32 centuries and 37 fifties thus far.
Speaking of the match, New Zealand managed to score 348 runs in 91 overs, with Williamson being the top-scorer. England then responded with 499 runs as Harry Brook smashed a 171-run knock.

The hosts are back in the middle to bat, with their score being 155 for 6. New Zealand will head into the fourth day with a four-run lead, which they would look to extend further.
