With the arrival of Mitchell Owen, set to replace Glenn Maxwell for the remainder of IPL 2025, the Punjab Kings head coach is quite excited. Ponting has been following Owen’s progress in the Big Bash League and feels that the 23-year-old would settle right in with the team.
“We’re very happy to have Mitchell Owen join us for the remainder of this season. He’s been great for Hobart Hurricanes, and I have kept an eye on him during the course of the past year. James Hopes, our assistant coach, has also worked with him over there,” Ponting said.
“Mitchell is a very exciting player who can bat in a few different positions and bowl some handy medium pace. I can’t wait to get him in here.” Punjab Kings got Owen for Rs 3 crore, and the 23-year-old has appeared in 34 T20 matches and scored 646 runs at an imposing strike rate, including two centuries and a best of 108. He has scalped 10 wickets too, giving the team greater flexibility.
“I am really excited to be joining Punjab Kings, and I cannot wait to get started,” stated Owen. Satish Menon, CEO of Punjab Kings, remarked, “We believe Mitch Owen has the perfect skill set and mindset for IPL. He is a young talent with a shining future, and we’re eager to watch him prove himself.”
