Mohammed Shami is one name that India have missed in the last year or so. The veteran pacer is on the road of recovery after undergoing knee surgery in February 2024. The Indian fans are eagerly waiting to see the 34-year-old doing the stuff he is known for, and with the experience he has, he can be vital on India’s tour of Australia for five-match test series in November 2024 and January 2025.
However, the pacer has started practicing at the nets and was seen bowling to India’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, at the NCA after India’s first test against New Zealand concluded. The pacer himself admitted that he wants to be 100 percent fit and wants to make his comeback in the Indian team.

Mohammed Shami eyes a potential return to India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
.Mohammed Shami has been out of action since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. He played a crucial role in India’s path to the final. Shami ended up taking most wickets in the tournament. He finished with 24 wickets, including a best of 7/57 in the semifinal against New Zealand. The 34-year-old is currently in rehab at the NCA.
In a report of Rev Sportz, Shami expressed his desire to be fit for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. In an interview, he said that he is fit completely and wants to play a couple of games in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 to get his rhythm back. However, he was seen bowling to Abhishek Nayar at the NCA with full intensity and troubled the Indian assistant coach on some occasions.

Mohammed Shami sheds light on his return to competitive cricket
Shami said, “I was bowling from half run-up before that because I didn’t want to take too much load. But yesterday, I decided to go full tilt, and I bowled at 100 percent. The result was good. I am 100 percent pain-free. Everyone has been wondering for a long time about whether I will make it for the Australia series, but it is still some time away.”
Shami also stated that he wants to spend a little more time on the ground to prepare for the Australia tour. He said, “I can see what kind of attack we need in Australia. I have to spend more time on the ground. I want to play a couple of (Ranji) matches before I go.” Shami’s Ranji team Bengal will play against Kerala at Eden Gardens, starting on October 26, while their next game will begin on November 6 against Karnataka. So, we might see Shami featuring in one of these matches.
