The Indian women’s cricket team has taken a significant hit as the brilliant opening batter Pratika Rawal has been allegedly sidelined from the World Cup semifinal match against the defending champions, Australia. The player who had been injured by her knee and ankle during the league stage match against Bangladesh, was taken off the field immediately as a precautionary measure.
How Rawal suffered a horrific injury
The incident took place in the 21st over of the Bangladesh innings which had already been interrupted by rain and was delayed by two and a half hours, thus making the field wet. As Rawal was fielding in the mid-wicket area, she chased the ball but overran it, her foot getting caught in the wet ground which caused her to twist her ankle as the batter was in pain.

As soon as the injury occurred, the batter was helped off the pitch and she did not come back for the rest of Bangladesh’s innings, Amanjot Kaur was her replacement at the top of the batting order. Now, with just a few days to go before the semifinals, RevSportz has stated that Rawal might not be in good enough condition to participate in that all-important match against Australia and hence has been ruled out.
Team is going to face the great issue of her absence. Captain Rawal was playing superbly well all through the tournament. She got 308 runs in six matches and her average was 51.33. Out of this, a match-winning century in the crucial match against New Zealand has been counted.
She is the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing World Cup after her partner Smriti Mandhana (365 runs).
