Out of form Prithvi Shaw has been axed from Mumbai’s squad for their upcoming Ranji Trophy match. This move comes on the back of fitness and disciplinary issues with the 24-year-old batter.
Shaw has been struggling to find a form with the bat for quite some time. He was once hailed as India’s next big player, but things are not going his way.

Shaw Out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2024 Squad
The opening batter has not put on significant performances with the bat in his last few outings. And his returns in the first two Ranji Trophy 2024 matches this season aren’t satisfactory at all. The right-hander scored 7 and 12 versus Baroda, followed by 1 and 39* against Maharashtra in his four innings.
Apart from that, Shaw is crippled with fitness issues every now and then. He seems to have put on weight, which is hampering his on-field performances.
Moreover, Shaw’s off-field conduct has also cost him his place in the squad. According to some reports, the young batter didn’t turn up for net sessions despite his poor outings. He remained absent from the team’s training sessions regularly.
All this combined has worked against Shaw, which has resulted in him getting sidelined from Mumbai’s squad. This is a setback for the promising cricketer, though he needs to improve his fitness and overall conduct to make a comeback.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s selection panel has roped in Akhil Herwadkar as Shaw’s replacement. The left-hand batter has featured in 41 first-class games and scored 2483 runs, including seven centuries and ten half-centuries.
Mumbai have also drafted in Karsh Kothari, as the selectors rested Suryakumar Yadav from their upcoming match. Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy 2024 match is against Tripura starting on October 26 in Agartala.
