In the 68th over, Pant tried a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes and hit the ball onto his right foot. England’s lbw review failed but it was clear Pant was in pain. The team’s physio Kamlesh Jain checked on him.
The injury looked bad from the start. Pant’s foot swelled up quickly. He couldn’t put weight on it and had to leave the field in a buggy after scoring 37 runs.
Scans later showed a fracture near the metatarsal bone which will take at least 6 weeks to heal. He will miss the rest of the Manchester Test and the final Test at The Oval starting July 31.
Will Pant Bat?
Despite being in pain, Pant wants to bat again in this Test match. Sources say even with the pain and injections Pant wants to play.
The medical team will decide. Dhruv Jurel will probably be the keeper in Manchester for now.

Pant’s wish to bat shows his spirit. A source says it will be tough for Pant to wear a shoe and put weight on his foot, making it difficult to bat.
Pant’s determination is understandable as India is 2-1 down in the series against England.

Pant has been tough before. He came back to cricket after many injuries from a car crash in 2022 and a long recovery.
In the 3rd Test at Lord’s he hurt his finger while keeping wickets but still batted, scoring 74 and 9. Batting with a broken foot is much tougher.
It’s not clear if Pant will play again. The medical staff will decide. His will to play and loyalty to the team defines his spirit.
