Riyan Parag, who was filling in as captain for the Rajasthan Royals, has been hit with a fine of Rs 12 lakh because his team didn’t bowl their overs quickly enough in a recent match against Chennai Super Kings. This game was part of the Indian Premier League and took place in Guwahati; it ended with a close win for the Royals by just six runs.
In that match, the Royals set a solid score of 182 runs for 9 wickets. CSK tried to chase it down but managed only 176 runs for 6 wickets. This victory marked the Royals’ first win of the season and it felt great for the players, especially with home fans cheering them on at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The fine was imposed because this was the Royals’ first violation of the season regarding slow over rates according to the IPL’s Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.22, which deals with minimum over-rate issues. The IPL announced this rule breaking in a statement.
Previously, the Royals had not had the best start to the season, suffering a loss in their first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team’s next challenge awaits them as they prepare to go up against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 5, which they will be hoping to win to build some momentum.
