Rohit Sharma has added another achievement to his impressive list in the Indian Premier League. During a recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, he hit a remarkable milestone. After sending a ball from Mohammed Shami over the boundary, Rohit became the first player to hit 100 sixes at this particular stadium. In the grand scheme of the IPL, he’s only the fourth player to achieve 100 sixes at any venue, which is a big deal!
He came in to play as an impact substitute and had a quick innings, scoring 26 runs off 16 balls, which included three sixes. Though he put up a decent score, it seems he’s having a tough time turning those starts into bigger numbers this season.
Most Sixes at a Single Venue in IPL History:
Sl No | Player Name | Venue | Sixes |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Virat Kohli | M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru | 130 |
2 | Chris Gayle | M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru | 127 |
3 | AB de Villiers | M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru | 118 |
4 | Rohit Sharma | Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai | 100* |
5 | Kieron Pollard | Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai | 85 |
When we look at players who’ve made a mark with sixes in the IPL, only a handful have crossed the 100 mark at a single ground. This group includes big names like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villiers, all of whom did it at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
For the Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard is behind Rohit at Wankhede, with 85 sixes. The comparison is notable, but Rohit’s record is certainly impressive.
If we take a look at the all-time record for sixes in IPL history, Rohit is sitting pretty in second place with 286 sixes from 263 matches. The record belongs to Chris Gayle, who, despite playing in fewer matches, has hit an incredible 357 sixes over his time in the league.
On the bowling side of things, Mumbai Indians did well in their recent match, keeping Sunrisers Hyderabad to a modest score of 162 for 5. A coordinated effort from the bowlers secured the win for the five-time champions. Will Jacks stood out as the top bowler for the team, taking 2 wickets for just 14 runs in three overs. Other key bowlers like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Trent Boult also contributed by each grabbing a wicket. It was a good team effort that helped Mumbai secure the victory.
