Just before the second First-Class match between India A and Australia A, something unexpected happened: Shreyas Iyer stepped down as captain. Because of this last minute change, the team managers picked Dhruv Jurel to lead India A against Australia A.
Neither Iyer nor the team managers have said why he quit so suddenly. But, it seems it’s for personal reasons. A source told TOI, Yes, Shreyas is taking some time off and is back in Mumbai. He has told the selectors that he can’t play in the second four-day match against Australia A. But he might still get a chance to play in the middle order when they pick the team for the West Indies series.

Iyer played in the first India A match against Australia A but didn’t score much, 8 and 13. During that match it looked like he was given out by the umpire when he was playing against spinner Corey Rocchicoli.
Even though Iyer didn’t score much, India A played well against Australia A in that first match. They scored 531 runs after Australia scored 532.
Iyer didn’t play for India in the England tour and wasn’t picked for the Asia Cup 2025 T20I team. He has been working hard to become an important player in all three formats. He’s already a key player in ODI cricket, played a big role in their Champions Trophy win last year.
But it’s been tough for him to get picked in the other two formats. India’s next red-ball series is against West Indies starting October 2nd. The team will be picked soon.
