On Wednesday, April 23, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad took on the Mumbai Indians, who have lifted the IPL Trophy five times. The match was not turning out well for SRH as under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians made merry while pursuing a total of 144 runs with consummate ease, finishing the match by the 16th over. This defeat marked a sad date in the story of SRH, bringing their losses in the Indian Premier League since its inception in 2013 to 100. That puts them in some trouble and makes them the eighth side to do so in the history of the IPL.
At any given time, though, absolutely every franchise to have played in the IPL since its inauguration in 2008 has gone through this very same mark in losses. At the other end of the spectrum are teams that now face the common burden of Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, with each having amassed 137 losses factoring in the tied matches. As for SRH, of its total 190 matches, it has won 89 and has lost 100. Three of its losses, though, went into the super over, which must really hurt.
The melancholy of it is that among the four old franchises in the league, SRH has a win-loss ratio below 1. The other three are the Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, all of whom have had a rough run trying to get wins consistently.

Gujarat Lions | 30 | 13 | 17 | 0 | 0.812 |
Kochi Tuskers Kerala | 14 | 6 | 8 | 0 | 0.75 |
Pune Warriors | 46 | 12 | 33 | 1 | 0.363 |
Punjab Kings | 254 | 117 | 137 | 0 | 0.838 |

After the MI loss, SRH looks like they have all but given up on playing for a playoff spot. Four points from eight matches have put them in an extremely uncomfortable position. To remain in contention for the playoffs, they will have to win all their remaining games. It seems like a long wish, but then again, you know sports; you never know.
