Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old cricketer who made headlines with his record breaking century in 2024 IPL, says he looks up to Shubman Gill and not Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. The Bihar born youngster is in England with India U-19 team and says Gill is his idol.
Suryavanshi, who became famous playing for Rajasthan Royals, hit the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history earlier this year. Though he is young, his playing style is compared to some of the best.
Suryavanshi was seen at Edgbaston during the second Test, watching Shubman Gill play a great Test innings abroad.
“I am feeling very good. This is my first Test in England and I am seeing how the game is going. We all came to watch the match. We got a lot of inspiration. Shubman Gill is our role model. Everyone’s dream is to play red ball cricket for their country,” Suryavanshi said in a video shared by BCCI.
The young batsman is also doing well for India U19 team in their series against England Lions. He has scored 179 runs in three matches. His contributions have been very important and he has scored fifty plus in one of his innings. With two matches left in the series, people will be watching to see if Vaibhav can continue to play well and help India U19 finish the tour well.

Shubman Gill’s 269 run innings helped India to post 578. His innings is now the highest by an Indian captain. The new Test captain is the first Indian to score 150+ in England since Rahul Dravid’s 217 at The Oval in 2002. He also broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record of highest individual score by an Indian in England (221) and is the second youngest Indian captain to score a double century.
