Joe Root has been England’s go-to man in Test cricket over the last few years and has already scored over 400 runs in this five-Test series against India thanks to his centuries at Lord’s and Manchester last month.
But former opener David Warner thinks Root might struggle when England tours Australia later this year for the Ashes series.
Warner, who is in England to play for London Spirit in The Hundred 2025 season, made a comment about Joe Root’s current form. He said even though Root is supposed to be England’s main batter, he still has to score a Test hundred in Australia.

Warner also mentioned Josh Hazlewood’s good record against Root. Hazlewood has got Root out 13 times in international cricket, 10 times in Tests, at an average of 31.4.
In an interview with BBC Sport, Warner said, Root is the main guy, but he hasn’t scored a hundred in Australia yet. Josh Hazlewood gets him out. He has to be ready for that.
Joe Root has a Test average of 51.09 and recently went past Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run-scorer in Test history. But his average in Australia is 35.68 after 27 innings since his first Ashes tour in 2013.
The 2025 Ashes series in Australia starts on November 21 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
