It is a worrying development for Indian fans with premier all-rounder Washington Sundar sustaining a finger injury just before the first Test against the West Indies. Sundar has been the heartbeat of the Indian Test side, and it would indeed be a huge blow if he were to miss the first Test to be held on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Washington Sundar feels pain after hurting his finger
On the recently concluded England tour, Washington Sundar was among India’s most crucial players. Not only did he gather 284 runs at a magnificent average of 47.33, but he also exhibited his spin bowling skills to grab seven wickets in four Test matches against the Englishmen.
However, it now appears that just a day before the first Test against the West Indies, the veteran seems to have injured a finger on his bowling arm, hence the fear! The Times of India stated that Sundar was reluctant to join in fielding drills due to a finger injury and had to summon the BCCI medical team for attention.

The report mentions how Sundar was seen fine-tuning his bowling through long spells but couldn’t join the catching drills due to a finger injury. Captain Shubman Gill spoke briefly to him before Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Nitish Reddy entered the conversation and assessed the seriousness of the injury.
What changes will team India make Washington Sundar miss out due to the finger injury?
Washington Sundar had become a strong contender to enter India’s playing XI in the first Test against the West Indies after his spectacular triumphs in England. However, with the finger on his bowling hand heavily taped, it should come as no surprise if India decides to exclude him from the playing combination for the first Test.
If Sundar misses out on this one, then most likely Nitish Reddy might be playing alongside Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja in an all-round capacity. Kuldeep Yadav might also find his way back into the playing XI after being snubbed for batting depth on the England tour.
