Now, let’s take a closer look at Ashwani’s journey. He hails from Jhanjeri in Punjab and was picked up for 30 lakhs during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. He first caught the eye during the Sher-e-Punjab Trophy in 2023 when he became his team’s leading wicket-taker. But he’s not a stranger to the game; Ashwani started his first-class career at a young age, making his debut for Punjab against Rajasthan when he was just 18 back in 2019.

Since then, his appearances in domestic cricket have been a bit sparse. In total, he has played two first-class matches where he took three wickets, and in the T20 space, he managed to claim two wickets in four games before stepping onto the IPL stage. Overall, before his big IPL debut, Ashwani had a record of 21 wickets in 21 T20 innings, and he’s particularly known for his skills in the death overs. He mixes up his deliveries really well, making him a tricky opponent for any batsman.
