Neetu David is a former Indian woman cricketer. Currently, she is serving as the chief selector of the senior Indian women’s cricket team.
David, born on September 1, 1977 in Uttar Pradesh, was a left-arm spinner. She made her international debut in February 1995.
She earned a call-up to play her debut Test match against New Zealand in Nelson. David had a memorable debut, as she took four wickets by conceding just 51 runs.
Five days later, David also made her ODI debut against the same opponent in Christchurch. In her debut ODI, David was the star performer for India, taking two wickets in 10 overs.
The wonderful outings early on set the path for her to have an illustrious cricket career. David featured in 10 Tests and 97 ODIs, picking up 41 and 141 wickets, respectively.
On October 16, 2024, Neetu David became just the second Indian woman cricketer to enter the ICC Hall of Fame 2024.

Neetu David: Records
- Neetu David holds the record for registering the best bowling figures in a Test innings. The left-arm spinner racked up eight wickets for 53 runs against England in Jameshpur in November 1995. With that, she became the first woman to take an eight-wicket haul in Test cricket.
- David’s eight for 53 was her first five-wicket in women’s Test cricket, making her the third-youngest Indian woman to take a Test fifer. She was 18 years and 84 days old at the time of the achievement.
- Neetu David picked up 20 wickets in 8 matches in the 2005 Women’s ODI World Cup. This is the joint-most wickets taken by an Indian woman bowler in the contest.
- In 2005, David became the first Indian woman bowler to take 100 wickets in ODI cricket.
- Her ODI career bowling average of 16.34 is the best among male and female bowlers with 100 wickets in the format.
