Joe Root said that like India’s Rishabh Pant who batted in the 4th Test with a fractured toe, Chris Woakes is willing to play through the pain for the team.
Woakes hurt his left shoulder on Thursday while fielding a ball. He walked off the field with his arm supported by his sweater.
Root said on Sunday, August 3, that Woakes is in a lot of pain. He mentioned Pant’s situation and said Woakes is willing to make sacrifices for England. England needed 35 runs to win, India needed 3 wickets. If Woakes bats, India would need 4 wickets.
The ECB said on Friday that Chris Woakes will be monitored for the rest of the 5th Test at The Kia Oval because of a left shoulder injury he sustained on the first day against India.

The ECB added that he won’t play any more in the Test and will be assessed after the series.
Woakes bowled 14 overs on Day 1, got KL Rahul’s wicket and conceded 46 runs.
Woakes’ injury is a big blow for England who are already missing several key players including Ben Stokes. Gus Atkinson took 2 wickets in 19 overs on Day 1 and looked ready to step up while Woakes is out.
