In a heartbreaking moment, Yashavi Jaiswal was given caught out despite the snicko meter not showing any clear edge between bat and ball during the ongoing Melbourne Test. That close call has left India and the fans in a lurch.
Snicko Shows No Edge; Third Umpire Sees a Deflection
The incident happened on the fifth ball of the 71st over bowled by Australian captain Pat Cummins. He bowled a short delivery down the leg side, which Jaiswal tried to pull.

But the ball passed close to the bat and ball before Alex Carey caught behind the stumps. Cummins and the whole Australian team appealed for the catch, but on-field umpire Joel Wilson didn’t give it out.
Then the Australia skipper asked for a review, with Wilson sending the request upstairs to the third umpire, Sharfuddoula. The third umpire has a close look at the footage from a couple of angles.
The footage shown by the broadcaster showed a clear deflection off the glove, which the third umpire also confirmed. But when he asked for the snicko meter to check the contact, the snicko didn’t show any movement.
So the third umpire went back to the footage, which showed the deflection, and concluded that there was contact between the ball and glove. Then he asked Wilson to change his decision and gave Jaiswal out.
The Indian left-hand batter wasn’t pleased with the decision and had a word with the umpires before going back to the pavilion. Jaiswal’s dismissal left India seven down on 140, and India is almost on the verge of losing the Boxing Day Test.
