Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar shared that when Kohli handed over the captaincy plaque during the Unbox event, he reassured Patidar by saying that he was worthy of the position. Patidar was overwhelmed at the time and was able to relax thanks to Kohli’s words. After Kohli, who had captained the team for a very long time, other reputed captains like Daniel Vettori, Shane Watson, Anil Kumble, and Rahul Dravid had taken the helm.
With several very talented years behind him, he was considered as a captaincy candidate following Du Plessis’s departure from the team. I was blank when he told me to hold the plaque, and he said, “You deserve it, you earned it.” That made me feel a bit better,” Patidar recalled on the RCB Podcast.

He went on to say that watching Kohli bat in the nets is a massive learning experience and that he is looking forward to developing alongside him now, thanks to the captaincy. Kohli is a treasure trove of riches, more than even the redoubtable Patidar can lay claim to.
Patidar’s new leadership has made his team fit enough to venture for the top two spots on the points table, especially on the back of some scintillating performances. Their next encounter is against Kolkata Knight Riders, home stage, Saturday, May 17.
