Cricket has seen many greats in the past, and even today, cricket has some brilliant players, but none can match the skillset Virat Kohli brings to the game. The former Indian captain has established himself as probably the best modern-day batter across all three formats. He has dominated this game in the last decade or so, and there is hardly any batting record where you won’t find Virat Kohli among the top. He is the greatest batter in the modern era, but is he a great captain?
He led India between 2017 and 2022. Virat has had his moments as the Indian captain or even the IPL captain. He has led India for 4-5 years across formats, and India had been dominant under his captaincy. Irrespective of the results in the ICC events, Virat’s captaincy has always been up to the mark. He led India to the first white-ball series win in South Africa and led India to win a Test series in Australia. There have been many glorified moments. So let’s talk about his captaincy records across formats and in the IPL.
Virat Kohli: Test Captaincy
Virat Kohli led India in 213 games across formats in his tenure as captain and won 135 of them at a winning ratio of 58.82. His real dominance as captain was in the longest format. It won’t be wrong to say that Virat is one of the best Test captains in history. Under him, India were at the top of the rankings between 2016 and 2021.
He led India to 68 Test matches and won 40 of them, with 15 wins coming in away matches. At home, no team could come close. Virat led India to 11 home test series and won all of them.
