The third season of the SA20 started on January 9 in Gqeberha. The opening game was played between the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) and MI Cape Town (MICT). The defending champs won the toss and elected to field first. They had a good start with the ball as Liam Dawson, Marco Jansen, Beyers Swapeneol took a wicket each inside the first seven overs.
At 42/3, the likes of Dewald Brewis and Colin Ingram put together 67 runs for the fourth wicket. During the partnership, in the 13th over of the innings, Brewis hit a no-look shot against Swanepoel. The former hit two back-to-back sixes to start the over. The video of the no-look shot has been going viral on the internet.

Dewald Brewis starts SA20 2025 with a blistering half-century
The former South Africa U19 player has started the season with an explosive 29-ball 57 including two fours and six sixes. His previous two seasons with the bat didn’t go well as the right-hander managed to hit only one half-century in both seasons. Meanwhile, Brewis’ innings helped the team recover from 42/3 to 174/7 on a turning track.

For the SEC, Jansen and Richard Gleeson took two wickets each while Swapenoel, Dawson, and Simon Harmer took one each. In reply, the two-time winners, SEC were never in the game and were bowled out for 77 runs in 15 overs. Only four batters could cross the double-digit mark with none of them going past the 20-run mark.
Trent Boult took two back-to-back wickets in the third over to get MICT bowlers going. Medium pacer Delano Potgeiter took a five-wicket haul while spinner George Linde and Azmatullah Omarzai took a wicket each. The Blue brigade has started the season with a 97-run win.
