South Africa’s cash-rich T20 tournament, SA20 2025 introduced a price of 2 Million for spectators who take a catch in the stands. For those who are not aware, the award was introduced ahead of the first SA20 season in 2023. Not many fans have managed to win the prize so far. However, in only the second match of the ongoing third season, a spectator managed to take a catch.
Apparently, former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is playing for 2024 finalists, Durban Super Giants. In the match against the 2023 finalists, Pretoria Capitals, Williamson hit a slog sweep against Eathan Bosch towards the midwicket boundary. A local Durban spectator took a one handed catch and was congratulated by the fellow spectators.

Talking about the match, the SuperGiants won the toss and elected to bat first in their home game. They had a great start with debutant Bryce Parsons (47) and Matthew Breetzke (33) putting together 67 runs in just 6.3 overs. Both batters were removed by Capitals’ Senuran Muthusamy. Losing both the openers meant that the scoring rate of Durban went down for a few overs.
However, the likes of Williamson (60*) and Wiaan Mulder (45*) helped the team recover from 127/4 in 15 overs to 209/4 at the end of the innings. In reply, Pretoria were cruising at one stage with 154/0 in 12 overs as Rahmanullah Gurbaz (89) and Will Jacks (64) scored a fifty each.
However, the wicket of Gurbaz by Noor Ahmed turned the game for the last year’s finalists and they won by two runs.
Kane Williamson made his SA20 debut in the ongoing season
The World Test Championship 2021 winning captain opted out of the NZ central contract after his side crashed out of the first round Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. He also stepped down from the white-ball captaincy as well and decided to play the game as a freelancer. He will play for Durban SuperGiants in the ongoing season.
