Once again, India and Pakistan shall rekindle their historic rivalry by locking horns on the pitch at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the end of February, this time in the UAE. With the BCCI not wanting to send the Indian side to Pakistan for the ICC tournament, the fixture will have to be held on neutral territory.
According to Sourav Ganguly, former Indian captain, as he reminisced over the 1996 Friendship Cup match between the teams for an occasion where tempers ran and froze, the match was in many ways symbolic of warm friendships between players but was hardly befitting because “when Shoaib Akhtar is charging up at 150Kmph where is the friendship in that,” as he was pictured saying in a promo for Netflix.
Responding to the maverick batter, Pakistani pace sensation Akhtar posted on the social media platform X: “Dada @SGanguly99 you are awesome. Indian Cricket is incomplete without you.”
