Mitchell Marsh has revealed how just a few days ago, while playing backyard cricket with his 4-year-old nephew, the Bumrah nightmare has continued for him. Bumrah was a constant source of trouble for Aussie batters in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking 32 wickets in the series while leading India to victory in Perth.
Although India lost one-three, Bumrah, while breaking records during the series, was announced as Player of the Series. In the Test match at Brisbane, Marsh was among the batters who first faced the barrage from Bumrah, who would later dismiss him in the only other Test he played in Sydney. He has dismissed him three times across eight innings.
At the Australian Cricket Awards, Marsh revealed how he was bowled by his nephew Ted, four, in the backyard using Bumrah’s action and that he struggled yet again.
“My nephew Ted is 4. The other day we were playing in the backyard. He ran up at me with Bum’s (Jasprit Bumrah’s) action. Nightmare,” Marsh said.
Marsh spoke in jest, saying Australia had won the Tests in Adelaide and Melbourne using only 10 players with him being in poor form.
“It’s been incredible really. Captained by the boys during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and especially with ten men; they did very well without me,” said Marsh.
When asked about the fans’ reaction last time he was awarded the Border medal and whether he ‘felt the love’ from them this time, Marsh jokingly remarked that prior to December, there had been a lot of love, but, subsequently, that was a different story.

“Yeah, pre-December, there was definitely a lot of love,” Marsh said jokingly.
“Post-December, bit of a different story.”
Marsh is currently out with an injury and may miss the Champions Trophy and 2025 IPL season.
