Amid all this chaos, unbelievable inside information has emerged from India’s tour of Australia, with the BCCI laying down new rules that also include a cap on how much luggage a player can take on overseas assignments. A report claimed that the board had to put the rule in place to avoid the recurrence of the imbroglio. As per the new rule, the BCCI will cover the cost of luggage only to a maximum weight of 150 kg.
Bags reportedly consisted of carrying more than 27 bags on tour. The report suggests that the luggage, which exceeded 250 kg, belonged not only to the player but also to the players’ families and personal staff. The BCCI, thus, owing to the excessive weight of the luggage, had to bear these expenses.
The bags consisted of a total of 17 bats, as well as other items belonging to the members of the player’s family and personal staff. As part of the BCCI policy, the luggage belonging to a player’s family and personal staff is supposed to be carried separately. But, the player got the BCCI to manage all that as part of his luggage.

The report further states that throughout the series, family members of the under-fire player were around him. In this process, the BCCI had to bear with it the costs of getting the player’s and his family members’ belongings from India to Australia and vice-versa, as well as from one city to another during the series Down Under. While not much is known about how much the Board spent on this, the amount is thought to be in lakhs.
It disturbed other team members and lured them into following suit. Consequently, the BCCI had to be tough and lay down some rules.
A lot of things changed since the Australian tour in Indian cricket. The players now have to travel on their team bus for matches. No player has been given permission to make personal arrangements when it comes to team travel.
As the team prepares for the ICC Champions Trophy to fly to Dubai, the BCCI has sent out a stern order that family members of the players will not be allowed on the tour. A senior player had even, according to a PTI report, sought understanding in this matter as he wanted to fly his wife to Dubai for the series.
The board is said to have told him that there is no exception to the rule for anyone.
