Chris Woakes last played for England during their White-Ball tour of the West Indies in December last year. He was not selected to represent England at the ICC World Cup 2024. He was also a part of the Punjab Kings squad in the Indian Premier League 2023 but did not play any matches for the team.
In test cricket and the ODI’s, Chris has surpassed the score of 1000 runs and 100 wickets. He holds the record as the 16th best match figure on the losing side in tests . It also includes, first best inning figure on the losing side. In T20I, he has gathered a score of 3 wickets for 4 runs, displaying his remarkable cricketing skills.
His absence made the fan curious to know the reason behind it. He answered all of their curiosity by uploading his social media post. He disclosed the reason for his father’s loss; the grief of which made him fail to appear in any cricket matches for a while.

He said that his family had to go through a heavy loss from their father’s demise at the beginning of May that left him and his family devastated. He stated that he spent the last few weeks with the people closest to him.
An update on my current absence from cricket: “The last month has been the most challenging of my life since, unfortunately, my father passed away at the beginning of May. I’ve spent the last few weeks with the people most important to me, my family.
We’re all obviously grieving and trying to get through what is undoubtedly the hardest moment in our lives. It’s times like this that perspective is at its greatest. I will be back playing cricket for Warwickshire, whom my dad loved dearly, when the time is right for me and my family.
I know playing cricket for Warwickshire and England made my dad incredibly proud. I look forward to doing that again in the future. Thanks for everyone’s privacy at this time.”
He requested for privacy during this period and took a break from cricket. His absence made the audience raise certain speculations. However, all of it ended up getting answered through his social media post.
His father’s death led him to take a break from sports and spend time with the family. However, he ended his post by saying that playing for Warwickshire and England has made his father incredibly proud and he plans to return to playing when he feels the time is right.
