Maxwell was thrilled at how a young net bowler pulled a Jasprit Bumrah on him in practice. At the moment, the 36-year-old is in Pakistan gearing up for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
During one of Australia’s training sessions, he was trying out his stroke against a bunch of young Pakistani bowlers when one of them provided a real bonus for the Aussie legend. Wrapped in white and khaki colors, this young fellow copied the Bumrah action and very quickly sent off onto a straight line of good-length delivery.
Maxwell lost his timing and the ball whizzed right past him, prompting wild cheers from those around. A video of the same was shared by Cricket Australia on Instagram. “Wherever we go now…..,” they went on to say in a teasing reference to a favorite Tom Holland meme.
Bumrah stands out as the best fast bowler in the world in the last decade. He has represented a core part of India’s bowling pack in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy of the year 2024/25. Although India failed to get past the Australians by a margin of 1-3, Bumrah stamped his class as the Player of the Series.
End of the five-match tussle with the amazing haul of 32 wickets at a stunning average of 13.06, 4 four-fours, and 3 fifers out of 9 outings. He ruled himself out of the 2025 Champions Trophy after suffering spasm attacks in the back while playing the Sydney Test in January.
Towards the end of the last year, Maxwell had also backed Bumrah to go down as ‘potentially’ the best fast bowler of all time. He spoke on the Grade Cricketer podcast, where the Aussie all-rounder named Bumrah and Yashasvi Jaiswal as the two real generational talents on the Indian senior team at their peak.
“I have said this before Bumrah is going to go down as potentially the best fast bowler of all time. Maybe not with the amount of wickets he takes in every format but for the guys that have played against him it is just so difficult,” Maxwell said.
Maxwell went on to elaborate how the bowler has really been a challenge to face with his bowling action. “He is just having such unique action, such unique ability with the ball to get it to really move and rush you-he beats you on outside edge and inside edge, has a very good sniff at a slower ball, it looks like a complete package,” was the conclusion.
Maxwell will most probably take part in the Australia Champions Trophy opener against England, scheduled for February 22 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
