MS Dhoni, the legendary cricketer known for his heavy bats capable of launching gigantic sixes, reportedly will use lighter willows while coming out for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025. Four bats from Goods and Batsman Equipment Company located in Meerut have already been shipped to the legendary India cricketer, and it is believed that from 10 to 20 grams shall be trimmed from their weight this season.
As per The New Indian Express quoting an insider: “Each bat weighs around 1230 grams with the same shape as before.”
As explained in reports, Dhoni had used bats between the weights of 1250 to 1300 grams when he was in prime form.
The teammate further explained that the two-time World Cup-winning captain has generally preferred heavier bats to the other players.
As it is believed by the paper, with the BCCI now giving clearance for Ma Chidambaram Stadium to be used for the team to train till March 9, Dhoni’s training schedule for the IPL 2025 is not yet finalized.
The 43-year-old cricketer, however, practiced at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
“He (Dhoni) used to train at the indoor facility. Since no team camping was here at that time, he was training with the bowling machine. He even had a friendly tennis match on the very first day of a tournament conducted at this venue,” an official from the Jharkhand State Cricket Association quoted by the paper said.
A few days ago, he stepped down as the captain of Chennai Super Kings ahead of IPL 2024 and was succeeded by Ruturaj Gaikwad in the role. Unfortunately, CSK did not qualify for the playoffs last year, finishing fifth in the table.
Dhoni is among the most successful captain in IPL history with five titles.

The grand event, IPL 2025, will set the ball rolling on March 22 with the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
