Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed, who burst into the limelight following her now-deleted post fat-shaming India men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, is now addressing row over fast bowler Mohammed Shami being called ‘criminal’ for not fasting during India’s semifinal match against Australia in the ongoing Champions Trophy.
When images of Shami sipping an energy drink during the match went viral on social media, some people started to criticize the player for not keeping “Roza.”
President pf All India Muslim Jamaat later Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barebai enraged and called Shami a “criminal” because he did not fast during the sacred month of Ramazan.
He said, “One of the mandatory duties is roza… They are a great criminal offense in any healthy man or woman who does not observe roza,”.

Shama supports Shami; she claims the Indian cricketer should not fast given his journey.
“In Quran, something very important is during Ramzan. Travelling lets Mohammed Shami go away from his own home and avoid fasting (Roza). He’s competing in a game in which he could be rather thirsty. It is your actions that are very significant; no one absolutely demands you to fast when you are playing a sport. Shama Mohamed informed ANI newsgroup that it is quite scientific religion, Islam.
Still, All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali supports Shami.
Fasting is compulsory in Islam, but it is obviously stated in the Quran that if one is travelling or ill, they have the option not to fast. Since Shami was on an international trip, he had this choice. He said no one has the right to point fingers at him.
Part of India’s Champions Trophy campaign in Dubai is 34-year-old Shami, who is preparing to meet New Zealand in the title contest on Sunday.
