Roaming around the trophy chamber again, serial winner Rohit Sharma arranged a big one in his kitty as captain. India won the ICC Champions Trophy under the leadership of Rohit Sharma on Sunday evening in Dubai. It was the second such title in less than a year time span from lifting the T20 World Cup crown in Barbados.
As the cameras were flashing while he was talking to reporters, Rohit was reminded of his old comment in which he had shared that for him, ICC world cups mean only one-day world cups, and if he still places this highest above every other event after winning two world titles so far.
“You want to win every tournament you are part of,” Rohit replied. “One-day world cup is one-day world cup because we’ve grown up watching it. There wasn’t T20 World Cup or Test Championship or ICC Champions Trophy back then. So that’s why I had said for us world cup is 50-over world cup.”
And then, in very Rohit style, he pointed to the piece of silver standing on the table and added it to say winning it isn’t a small task.
“…isme (pointing towards Champions Trophy) koi kami nahi hai. Ye bhi… arey aap mujhe pucho itna wo lagta hai ye jeetne ke liye. Trophy toh trophy hai. Aap koi bhi final jeeto, aapko bohot pride feel hota hai, sirf mujhe hi nahi but puri team ko. (At that time, the World Cup was the only 50 over cup for us, and it’s not that small a feat. Ask me how much it takes to win. A trophy is a trophy, winning any final fills you with pride).

Rohit broke a streak of low scores by notching up a winning half-century in the final that laid the foundation for India’s four-wicket victory over New Zealand.
Setting 252 to win, India reached closings in 49 overs with Ravindra Jadeja striking the last boundary. Thus, India ended their campaign winning all the matches of the tournament.
