After just missing the Women’s Premier League title twice, Delhi Capitals is aiming for that third time’s the charm moment against Mumbai Indians in their third final in a row. The game’s on Saturday at Brabourne Stadium.
Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals had a good run in the league stage, winning five and losing three of their eight games. That put them at the top, earning them a direct spot in the final.
Talking about playing in their third final and the team’s performance this season, Lanning said, What happened before doesn’t really matter, not even this year’s games. It all comes down to how we play tomorrow. We’re ready to give it our best shot.
All year, different players have stepped up when needed. We don’t depend on just one or two people, which makes us confident going into tomorrow’s game. Whoever has a good night, we know we can count on them to put Mumbai under pressure, she told the media at a press conference before the game.
When asked about her opening partner Shafali Verma’s form this season, Lanning said, “She’s been great for us. She’s been getting some good starts and looks like she’s having fun, always smiling, which is a good sign. She’s key to our team, both on and off the field. I’m glad to see her doing well, and I’m sure she’s got a big game in her for tomorrow.”
About her time playing for Delhi Capitals in India, Lanning said, “I’ve really enjoyed being part of the WPL and Delhi Capitals. It’s an amazing competition, quite different in many ways. But I’m still as competitive as ever and really want to win. That hasn’t changed, no matter the game or team. I want to do my best and score as many runs as I can to help the team win.
