Punjab Kings (PBKS) are one of the initial three teams who haven’t yet won the IPL. They have always lacked something or the other.
But this might not be the case in IPL 2025. They have assembled a solid team this year while snapping an IPL-winning captain-coach combo of Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting.
Under the new management, PBKS will be keen to end their trophy drought. But they need to draft a robust playing XI.
On that note, here’s our prediction on Punjab Kings’ strongest playing XI for IPL 2025.
PBKS Squad for IPL 2025:

Openers: Prabhsimran Singh, Josh Inglis
PBKS will stick with Prabhsimran Singh as one of their opening options. The local boy has been their consistent performer since 2023.
Singh will have the huge task of providing brisk starts with a new partner, Josh Inglis. The Australian hasn’t opened before this, but he can be a good fit, thanks to his aggressive batting.
Singh and Inglis are also wicketkeepers. So one of them will keep the wickets for PBKS this season.
Middle Order: Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, Suryansh Shedge
PBKS will have a power-packed middle order. Skipper Shreyas Iyer will keep the No. 3 slot while guiding his team towards a competitive total.
Glenn Maxwell will return to the franchise after five years and slot in directly at No. 4. He can light up the ground with his mind-boggling hitting and handy spin-bowling.
Maxwell’s fellow countryman, Marcus Stoinis, will follow with his strong finishing skills. On top of that, he can bowl decent medium pace.
Punjab will have a few more finishers in their ranks. Local boy Nehal Wadera can set things on fire from the outset, while PBKS’ breakout star, Shashank Singh, is no different.
The franchise can test a promising finisher in Suryansh Shedge. The Mumbai batting all-rounder has impressed with his solid clean-striking while batting lower down the order.

Bowlers: Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal
PBKS bought back Arshdeep Singh in the auction. The left-arm pacer has been their mainstay for the last four seasons. He delivered his best in Punjab colours last season by taking 19 wickets in 14 games.
Singh will have another left-arm pacer’s company this season. South Africa’s tall pacer, Marco Jansen, will keep batters in check with pace and bounce. Plus, he can come hard with the bat as well, which further deepens PBKS’ batting lineup.
Finally, Yuzvendra Chahal will be their lead spinner. The leg spinner is the top wicket taker in the IPL, with 205 scalps under his belt.
Impact Player: Harpreet Brar
PBKS may need an additional spinner to assist Chahal. So they will bring in Harpreet Brar when their bowling turn comes up. He can make crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs.
