Ben Duckett, the English cricketer, recently shared that it would be a dream come true for him to captain his home team. However, he admitted that he really doesn’t know if he’s even considered as a potential replacement for Jos Buttler, who has stepped down as the limited-overs captain. Buttler’s resignation came shortly after England was knocked out during the group stages of the Champions Trophy on February 28. There’s been a lot of talk about Harry Brook possibly being the favorite to take on that leadership role.
When Duckett was asked if he would want to lead the team, he told Sky Sports, “Captaining England would obviously be a dream for me. I guess it’s not something I’m focused on right now, but I can’t say for sure.” He seems to be keeping a positive outlook, saying he’s curious to see how things develop and what decisions are made by the cricket board.
Right now, Duckett is just thrilled to be playing for England. Reflecting on his career, he mentioned that just a few years ago, he never imagined he would get this opportunity. He feels like he’s living out a childhood dream, representing his country, and he’s content playing in all three formats of the game.
At 30, Duckett has played 22 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 17 Twenty20 matches, racking up 1,058 and 412 runs respectively. He’s also been part of 32 Test matches and has scored a total of 2,270 runs in those games. It’s evident that he’s dedicated and passionate about his cricket career, and he appreciates every moment of it.
