Lucknow Super Giants came across a tough match, losing by eight wickets to Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Stadium during the IPL 2025 season. The game started with some promise as openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh were looking solid at the crease. Markram scored 52 runs, and Marsh contributed 45, but things took a downturn once they both returned to the pavilion.
As Lucknow was wrapping up their innings, Ayush Badoni stepped up, scoring 36 runs to help the team post a total of 159. When it was Delhi’s turn to bat, they made chasing down that score look pretty easy. Abishek Porel had a great outing with the bat, finishing his innings with 51 runs. KL Rahul played a crucial role too, hitting an unbeaten 57 runs off just 42 balls, steering his team to victory. Axar, the captain, chipped in with a steady 34 runs as Delhi comfortably finished their chase with 13 balls to spare.
After the match, LSG’s captain Rishabh Pant shared his thoughts on the outcome. He pointed out how critical the toss was in influencing the game’s direction. In his view, batting second had its advantages, and he felt that contributed to their defeat. Pant made it clear that he wasn’t looking to complain or make excuses, but he did feel it was important to mention the toss.
We knew we fell short by about 20 runs. In Lucknow, the toss determines a lot. The team bowling first always has some help from the pitch. We tried to stay back, but we just couldn’t seem to break free. This often happens in Lucknow; the pitch tends to get better for batting in the second innings, and that’s just how the game goes. We can’t complain about it. Sure, the toss plays a big role here, but as a team, we’re not making excuses, he said during the post-match chat.
With this defeat, LSG has now faced four losses this season and currently sits fifth in the points table. On the flip side, Delhi Capitals celebrated their sixth win, solidifying their place in second position.
