Under Axar Patel’s leadership, the Delhi Capitals have brought Sediqullah Atal into the fold, replacing Harry Brook. Brook had withdrawn before the 2025 IPL season began due to personal reasons, and it took a fair while for a replacement to be named. With playoffs still up for grabs, the team finally decided to add the young Afghan player to their batting squad.
Sediqullah Atal is a 23-year-old left-handed opening batsman. He has gained fairly decent experience in playing for Afghanistan and has been reasonably consistent in T20s, managing to score 1,507 runs at an average of 34.25 and with a strike rate of 131.27. Sediqullah has 13 fifties, so that can be considered to suit the Capitals at a price of INR 1.25 Crores. He recently featured in SA20, where he gave a very strong impression with a fifty.
The Delhi Capitals have faltered in the second half of the IPL season, winning only one game out of the last five. Top-order batting has been a big issue, which is why they chose to bring in Sediqullah as a late addition. Unfortunately for them, he can still not feature in the next game against Punjab Kings but probably will get his debut against Gujarat Titans on May 11.
