Scotland’s Charlie Cassell has registered his name in his record books. Cricket history has seen many brilliant bowlers in the past. Some bowlers have started well, while others have made their mark after playing for a while. But only 15 bowlers have registered a five-wicket haul on their debut in ODI cricket. Among those, two bowlers have six-wicket hauls.
South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada held the record for the best bowling figure on his ODI debut. On his ODI debut against Bangladesh, he took 6/16 in July 2015 in Mirpur. And exactly after nine years, that record has been broken. Scotland’s debutant Charlie Cassell has broken that record and gone on to achieve a rare feat.
Scotland’s Charlie Cassell registers Best Bowling Figure on ODI Debut
Scotland are taking on Oman in match no. 16 of the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two 2023–27 at Forthill, Dundee. And it has turned out to be a record-breaking game for debutant Charlie Cassell. The right-arm pacer has made history and registered the first-ever seven-wicket haul in the history of ODI cricket as a debutant.
He finished with an impressive bowling figure of 7/21 in 5.4 overs, including a maiden, and made this name more memorable. At one stage, Cassell had four wickets without conceding a run in 1.3 overs, which was exceptional for a bowler. His exceptional figure helped Scotland restrict Oman for a total of just 91 runs in 21.4 overs.
This is an important game for Scotland, as they have only won one game in the last four matches in the tournament. This win will give them two important points, which will put them third on the points table. They have five points in five matches and have only two games to play. So a win here will be important for them to stay in contention to qualify for the next round.
