The previous Indian Cricketer Wasim Jaffer is likely to replace the current Punjab Coach for the upcoming IPL 2025. There is alot going on in cricket recently. With everyday updates, news and rumors, a new news emerged as the jaffer replacing Trevor Bayliss.
With the squad given, Trevor coached the Punjab Kings for two seasons and kind of failed utilizing the squad potential. The team finished in eighth and ninth position for the past consecutive seasons that has forced the franchise owners to rethink their contract with Bayliss.
As per previous news reports, Punjab was looking for the Indian coach to bring on to the team as new head coach replacing Bayliss. The move is seeked to be influenced after the success of the other franchises coached by the Indian Coach.The success of Gautam Gambhir with KKR, Ashish Nehra with Gujarat Titans, and Sourav Ganguly’s partial success with Delhi Capitals may have influenced this decision by Punjab Kings.
Looking to franchise expectations, Wasim Jaffer fills the shoes of the Bayliss and can become the next head coach for the Punjab kings. Jaffer served as the batting coach for Punjab Kings from 2019 to 2021, resigning before the IPL 2022 auction. With the IPL 2025 mega auction approaching, he faces the challenging task of retaining the team’s core and rebuilding the squad. Despite various captain-coach pairings, Punjab Kings have not yet won an IPL title, with their best performance being a runner-up finish in 2014.

Wassim Jaffer and Punjab Kings IPL:
This is not the first time the duo of team and player are coming back together. Wassim had earlier been linked to the Punjab Kings as a bowling coach but then he was released from the club. Being the Batting consultant for the team from 2019 to 2021 he set his path different from the Punjab. But now with Punjab seeking a local face to coach the team in the Upcoming IPL 2025.
The franchise’s batting performance was underwhelming during both periods when Jaffer served as batting coach (2019-2021) and batting consultant (2023). Scoring only 9,482 runs from 1,100 overs, their run rate of 8.63 was significantly below the standard set by most other teams during the same period.
The team’s performance took a significant downturn after batting coach Wassim left the coaching staff. PBKS finished in the ninth position out of ten teams, barely above the Mumbai Indians, who were at the bottom.
