The Indian Test team prepares to embark on its most comprehensive tour to England, and for Pujara, this could be the defining moment for this generation of Indian cricket. In an interview for Sony Sports’ campaign ‘Naya India, Dhakad India’, Pujara talked about the importance of the India-England rivalry and the value of winning there.
“India-England Test series is really a test for the strength and flexibility of teams,” said Pujara. He mentioned that India has only won three of 19 series in England over the last century, emphasising how difficult it can be for us.
That record shows how trying the conditions can become; even the better Indian teams have found it hard. But the current side, led by young captain Shubman Gill, feels like it can tell a different story, in Pujara’s views. He feels base energy is doing wonders for this team and that this tour could literally change Indian cricket. `I cannot wait to see how this team takes up the challenge in setting new milestones for the coming days.’

The series will also be Gill’s maiden outing as Test captain. As one of India’s very bright stars, Gill will be carried against a daunting English test side that is known to play with a very aggressive spirit.
The matches are scheduled from June to August 2025 and are to be held at eminent grounds, including Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval. This will be India’s first Test series since the very recent retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket.
