On Sunday, stand-in captain Wiaan Mulder made history for South Africa against Zimbabwe in the second Test. The ICC reports he scored the most runs in a debut innings as Test captain and hit the fastest 250 (in balls) by a South African.
Mulder’s 264 not out took South Africa to 465/4 on Day 1. He also scored the highest score by a South African in a single day of a Test match and the second-quickest double century by a South African.
This is South Africa’s best-ever single-day score in Test cricket and the most runs in a day’s play in Zimbabwe.
After Zimbabwe took early wickets, Mulder and David Bedingham added 184 runs. Lhuan-dre Pretorius also made a quick half-century to help the World Test Champions get a great score on the first day.
