In the second Test against India, Joe Root was brilliant. He scored a great hundred at Lord’s. He helped England a lot. They were not doing great at first but he made sure they got a good score.
Root has been playing cricket for a long time and knows how to handle pressure. When he came in to bat England were in trouble, wickets had fallen early. The situation called for someone to stand firm and get the team back on track. That’s exactly what he did. He batted calmly. He played smart shots. He changed the momentum. He and another batsman put on a long partnership to get the team back on track.
His hundred was not just a score but showed how determined he was to help his team. He kept the Indian bowlers at bay and gave the other batsmen confidence. Root’s performance showed how important experience and a cool head is in Test cricket.
Unfortunately for Root his time at the crease ended when Jasprit Bumrah bowled him out on the second day. Bumrah is also a seasoned player in the Indian team and known for his great bowling. After Root scored 109 he bowled a ball that Root couldn’t defend. The ball went right through his defences and hit the stumps. It was a big moment in the game as it removed England’s best batsman.
Even though his innings was cut short, Root’s hundred was a big part of the Test match. He got England back on track. This made for a better game. Root showed everyone again why he is one of the best.
Joe Root has now joined a legendary list after this century as he surpassed Rahul Dravid and Steve Smith in the list of most test 100
