2024 Paris Olympics: Hockey Red Card Penalty
The 2024 Paris Olympics is all over the news and is currently the most followed tournament all over the world. But that’s not the current tea, it is the Hockey sport that is gaining mass attention from the Asian continent after the INDIA vs GREAT BRITAIN quarter final clash happened, which Men in Blue won.
A red card incident occurred in the Quarter Final of the Hockey match. Amit Rohidas was given a red card for a dangerous stick tackle on a Great Britain player during their quarterfinal match. The incident happened in the second quarter when Rohidas’ stick hit Will Calnan in the face. After reviewing the play, the video umpire decided the contact was intentional, resulting in Rohidas being expelled from the game. Despite playing with only ten players for the rest of the match, India won in the shootout.
Following this card penalty, Amit Rohidas is expected to miss the semi final match of the Hockey Olympics against Germany as he has been given a one match suspension for the offense where unintentionally hit the rival player with his stick. He is suspended for the match under the breach of FIH code of conduct.
Now after the incident the Indian hockey Federation has lodged an appeal for the red card penalty incident. The decision for this appeal will be made by the Tournament director which will decide Amit Rohidas participation in the next match.
