India won at Lord’s after 28 years! One of their best wins abroad. MS Dhoni’s young team outplayed England in a 5 day match at the Home of Cricket. India defended 319 on a tough Lord’s pitch where seamers got movement and the bounce became uneven later on.
Dhoni needed his bowlers to come through. Ishant Sharma delivered one of his best spells in Test cricket on a gloomy afternoon at Lord’s, taking 7 for 74 to dismiss England for 223. Ishant broke the 5th wicket partnership between Joe Root and Moeen Ali, getting Moeen to fend off a bouncer to short leg. England then collapsed after lunch. They kept trying to pull and hook Ishant’s bouncers and got caught in the deep.
Ishant was the game changer for Dhoni and put India on the verge of their first win at Lord’s since 1986. Then Ravindra Jadeja got James Anderson run out to end the match and start the celebrations for the visitors who took a 1-0 lead in the 5 match series.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar also took 6 for 82 in the first innings to keep England’s lead down to 24 after Ajinkya Rahane’s 103 had taken the tourists to 295 on Day 1. In the 3rd innings Murali Vijay scored 95, Bhuvneshwar (52) and Jadeja (68) made half centuries to take the target past 300. They won with a spirited performance that will be remembered for a long time.
