Michael Bracewell will replace Glenn Phillips in the first Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo starting July 30. Phillips is out with a right groin injury he suffered earlier this month.
Bracewell wasn’t supposed to be available for this series due to his Hundred commitment but since he’s available for the first Test he’s been included in the squad. He’s currently in Zimbabwe with the T20I team. After the first Test he’ll head to Southern Brave for their first game.
Blackcaps coach Rob Walter said Glenn’s injury created an opening in the Test squad and Michael is the next best. He said Michael’s skills will be a good addition and keep the team balanced.
He also said since Michael is with the T20 team and is free for the first Test they’ll include him in the squad. After that test they’ll decide if they need to replace him for the second Test.
Walter said Phillips being out of the tour in Zimbabwe was disappointing and they feel for Glenn since he’ll miss out on the series.
Walter knows Phillips was looking forward to playing for the Black Caps and is sad he won’t be able to for this series. He also said Phillips will get back on the park and he’s looking forward to seeing him do so.
