Rishabh Pant is a big star in Indian cricket and maybe the most fearless player around. He’s a real fighter, and that’s what he showed in the 4th Test against England in Manchester.
On Day 1, Pant hurt his toe trying to play a shot and had to leave the field immediately. Many thought he wouldn’t bat in the first innings but he surprised everyone by batting through the pain and scoring a half century. He got a big cheer from the crowd and he deserved it.
He was supposed to bat on Day 5 to try and save the match for India. But Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar all scored hundreds so he wasn’t needed. After the match Pant posted a picture of his leg in a cast on social media.
It looks like Pant will be out for about 6 weeks. The picture showed his leg in plaster with crutches nearby, saying it’s hard for him to walk. Not good news for Indian cricket fans as Pant is key to the Test team. He won’t play the next Test at the Oval.
Dhruv Jurel will probably replace him and Narayan Jagadeesan from Tamil Nadu has been called up as a replacement.
We don’t know exactly when Pant will be back. Reports say he will be out for 6 weeks. If so he will miss the next Test against England at the Oval. He will also miss the Delhi Premier League (DPL) where he was going to play for Purani Dilli 6.
India has no matches in August. If they arrange a series with Sri Lanka Pant might miss that too. He might be back for the Asia Cup in September if he’s selected.
